As the British General Election takes off, with New Labour and the Conservatives representing nothing more than different wings (at best) of the British capitalist class, a demonstration organised by the National Pensioners’ Convention with support from the TUC and various trade unions such as Unison and Unite, took place in London today. I estimate about 5,000 took part. The weather was glorious and at 1.00 pm we left the Embankment by Temple Station on The Thames for Trafalgar Square.

Brighton Unemployed Centre, supported by UNISON, hired a coach and we went to the demonstration, arriving early at around 12.00. Spirits were high and Lee Vernon, a volunteer at the Centre and Socialist Party member spoke at the end of the rally.

Here are a few pictures!
